Potluck invitations that stop five people bringing chips

A good potluck is a balanced table. Guests say what they are bringing when they RSVP, you limit how many of each dish type, and the invitation shows what is still needed, so there is dessert and a main for everyone.

What your guests are asked

The RSVP form is built for this kind of event, so you get the answers you need in one reply.

  • What are you bringing?

Each guest names their dish and picks a type such as a main, side or dessert.

  • Allergens in the dish

Guests flag common allergens, so everyone can tell what is safe to eat.

  • Bring your own drinks

Mark the event as BYO and let guests say what they are bringing to drink.

  • Still needed

The invitation shows what is still needed, such as 2 mains and 1 dessert, without showing guest names.

Start from a designed cover

Pick a cover, change the text and fonts, and every link you share previews as a rich card.

Planning tips

  • Set limits per dish type

Capping desserts at four and mains at six keeps the table balanced without you policing it.

  • Ask who needs the oven

Knowing who needs heating or refrigeration helps you plan the kitchen before people arrive.

  • Keep allergens visible

Ask guests to flag allergens in their dish so people with allergies can choose safely.

Questions

Can I limit how many of each dish people bring?

Yes. Add a number to a dish type, for example Desserts: 4. Once that many guests have chosen it, it can no longer be picked on the RSVP form.

Can guests see what others are bringing?

If you show the attendee list, the invitation shows what guests are bringing. Either way it shows what is still needed.

Do guests need to sign up?

No. They follow your link, choose their dish and RSVP, and can change it later.

Can I ask for allergen information?

Yes. Guests can tick common allergens, such as nuts, dairy and gluten, for the dish they are bringing.
